Mohun Bagan achieved the distinction of being the first side to successfully defend the League Shield title. They managed to win the League Shield for two successive seasons in 2024-25 as they defeated Bengaluru FC 2-1 in extra-time in the final. It was their second ISL Cup title according to the statistics of the league, as their tally also included the 2019-20 ISL Cup won by ATK prior to its merger with Mohun Bagan.

However, East Bengal’s title win in 2025-26 was through a different format. In this season, the competition was contested through one-leg round robin with no playoff games, where both teams ended up scoring 26 points each, but East Bengal won the title by +19 goal difference compared to Mohun Bagan’s +13 goal difference. This is the first ISL title win for East Bengal and first league championship since 2003-04.
